END THE BAN

Major League Soccer bans “political language or behavior” at its games. This rule is egregiously misguided. We join the many other independent supporters groups— including the Dark Clouds, Dark Glitterati, Timbers Army, Emerald City Supporters, and Gorilla FC— in calling for the League to end the ban.

The rule has three fundamental problems: it is vague, it is hypocritical, and it is contrary to the loud and independent spirit of soccer supporters.

It is vague because “political” can never be reasonably defined or fairly applied.

It is hypocritical because MLS and its teams engage in political behavior all the time, like with Pride Week or the regular singing of the National Anthem.

And it is contrary to the spirit of soccer, a sport built on the energy of independent supporters groups, on capos and tifos and Wonderwall, a sport where home field advantage means something, and where dedicated, outspoken fans can bring a team to them.

While supporters across the country have called on MLS to end the ban, none of their teams have yet joined them. To that end, the Red Loons are excited to announce that we will be rolling out several initiatives to help convince Minnesota United to be the first to join the call to end the ban.

The first of these, effective immediately, is a boycott of all in-stadium purchases at Allianz Field.
